Police: Woman charged after fleeing traffic stop with children in car

Reckless Driving Leads to Crash Involving Children in North Charleston

In a concerning incident, the North Charleston Police Department has arrested a woman after an attempted traffic stop escalated into a crash involving children. The incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving and the importance of prioritizing safety on the roads.

Dangerous Driving Puts Lives at Risk

Reckless Maneuvers and Disregard for Traffic Laws

According to the police report, officers were patrolling the area near Rivers and Barnwell Avenues on Wednesday around 6 p.m. when they observed a silver sedan driving recklessly. The officers witnessed the vehicle following another car too closely and changing lanes illegally. Determined to address the dangerous behavior, the officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

High-Speed Chase and Disastrous Crash

Instead of complying with the officers' instructions, the driver of the sedan made a sudden move, crossing multiple lanes into the median before speeding off and turning left onto Aragon Street. The suspect vehicle then attempted to turn left onto Meeting Street Road, blatantly ignoring a stop sign. This reckless maneuver resulted in the sedan crashing into a Ford F-150 truck, pushing the truck off the roadway and into a ditch.

Unsecured Children and Unconscious Passenger

As the officers took the driver into custody, they made a disturbing discovery. Two unsecured children were sitting in the front seat of the car, with no car seats present. Additionally, a woman who had been sitting in the front of the car was rendered unconscious due to the impact of the crash.

Charges and Consequences

The driver of the sedan, identified as Ameshia Nachelle Green, 25, of North Charleston, was arrested at the scene. She now faces charges of failure to stop for blue lights resulting in bodily injury and child endangerment. Green was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center, and no bond has been set at this time.

Prioritizing Safety on the Roads

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible driving and the need to prioritize the safety of all road users, including children. Reckless behavior, such as speeding, illegal lane changes, and disregarding traffic signals, can have devastating consequences, as evidenced by this crash. It is crucial for drivers to exercise caution, obey traffic laws, and ensure the proper restraint of all passengers, especially young children, to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring.

Ongoing Investigation and Community Concerns

The North Charleston Police Department is continuing its investigation into this incident, and further details may emerge as the case progresses. The community is likely to be deeply concerned about the safety implications of this event and the need for increased awareness and enforcement of traffic regulations to protect all road users.
