The 90-year-old Chicago Thanksgiving Parade returned with a bang, featuring giant helium balloons, festive floats, international bands, and a lot of dancing. Parade spokeswoman Ashley Berry expressed her love for the feeling of unity among the crowd. "We’re happy, we’re thankful, and we all have commonality," she said. This annual event truly brings cultures from around the world to State Street, making it a unique experience.

Dennis Evashenk, president of the Chicago Thanksgiving Parade Foundation, emphasized the significance of the parade. "We’ve got groups from Australia and different parts of the U.S.," he said. "What’s great about Chicago is that we showcase folks from all over the world in a truly unique way."

Planning and Preparation

Planning for the annual Thanksgiving Parade begins at least one year in advance, sometimes even two years. From ensuring security to coordinating performances, every detail is meticulously planned to create a seamless experience. The goal is to bring the world to State Street and celebrate the diversity of the city.

This extensive planning allows for a spectacular display of costumes, makeup, and drumlines. As DeeDee Skelton from Mobile, Alabama, said, "We are supporting the Mobile Azalea Trail Mades. It is very cold here, but the parade is worth it." Families and first-timers alike braved the cold to catch the magic of the parade.

The Parade Experience

Hundreds of thousands of people lined the parade route from Ida B. Wells Drive to Randolph Street, eager to witness the spectacle. Some snagged their spots early to get a front row view, while others extended their trips to be a part of this annual tradition. Rodney Ogenche, a first-timer, admitted, "I was not prepared for the cold, but it’s the Windy City, and the wind chills make it an unforgettable experience."

Amanda Case, another parade-goer, said, "We were supposed to go home yesterday, but we extended our trip to stay for the parade. It’s been amazing to see the different cultures and performances." The parade truly became a gathering place for people to come together and celebrate.
