The Fraser Valley Zone 3 softball team faced an early deficit in their opening game, but their resilience and determination shone through as they rallied to secure a 3-1 victory. Coach Katelyn Ross was relieved to see her players shake off their first-game jitters, acknowledging that the team is filled with talented athletes who simply need to trust in their own abilities."Our girls worked hard, we were behind in the first inning, and they came back and won it 3-1," said Ross. "They had loaded bases for a couple of innings and couldn't cash them, but they ended up cashing in in the last two innings to take the 'w'."

Players like Sara MacDonald, Julia Waterman, Amarah Hunter, and Aden MacDonald, who all play for the Ridge Meadows Pride 09A club team, acknowledged the challenge of getting to know each other's preferences and how they respond to different situations."It's difficult getting to know every team member's preferences on the field because everyone responds differently and have grown to different situations," said Julia Waterman.The first game demonstrated the importance of strong communication, especially for a team that is still in the process of building chemistry."Especially if you're just getting to know one each other," said Aden MacDonald.

Julia Waterman noted that the team played defense really well, and she credited the team's "amazing pitchers" for their contributions."It helps that we have amazing pitchers," said Waterman.The team's defensive performance was a key factor in their ability to overcome the early deficit and ultimately come out on top.

I've watched people do it before and I've heard about it and it's my first time. It's exciting," said Hunter.Beyond the competitive aspect, the players also emphasized the joy they find in the sport and the friendships they've forged through their shared experiences."For the most part, though, the girls enjoy the sport because of the fun they have and the friendships they've made," said Sara MacDonald.
