Countdown to the Grandest State Fair: Wisconsin's Anticipated 173rd Extravaganza

As the sun sets on the eve of the 173rd annual Wisconsin State Fair, the air crackles with anticipation. In less than 24 hours, the gates will swing open, ushering in a flood of eager fairgoers eager to immerse themselves in the time-honored traditions and captivating attractions that have made this event a beloved institution for generations.

Unveiling the Grandeur of Wisconsin's Iconic State Fair

Livestock Barns: A Showcase of Agricultural Excellence

The Wisconsin State Fair is a testament to the state's rich agricultural heritage, and the livestock barns are the beating heart of this celebration. Thousands of animals, from majestic horses to fluffy sheep, will grace the fairgrounds, each one a testament to the hard work and dedication of their exhibitors. These young competitors, some as young as eight years old, pour their hearts into preparing their animals for the coveted livestock shows, where they will compete in open and junior divisions, vying for the chance to be crowned champions. One such competitor, Levi Dulmes of Dulmes Family Boer Goats, has been a fixture at the fair since he was a child. "When COVID hit, we were all pretty caught off guard with the State Fair being canceled," he reflects. "But with it being back, I think every year we're grateful that we're able to be here and we're able to show." The fair holds a special place in the hearts of these exhibitors, serving as a celebration of their agricultural roots and a platform to showcase their hard-earned skills.

Culinary Delights: Saz's Sizzling Showcase

While the livestock barns are a hub of agricultural excellence, the Saz's Miller High Life Pavilion is a veritable culinary wonderland. The team at Saz's, a renowned local catering company, has been working tirelessly to prepare for the onslaught of hungry fairgoers. "We do, probably around 7,000 plus orders of mozzarella sticks, about 13,000 if not more, sampler platters," reveals Hannah Kitzerow, Saz's Director of Festivals. This year, Saz's is riding high on the success of their Sprokies victory on Tuesday, where their Deep Fried Lemonade Bites took home the top prize. Last year, they also earned third place in the Drinkies competition with their Cotton Candy Lemonade, which they plan to sell again. "This year has been especially busy for us, with doing the RNC host fest down at the Summerfest grounds, and then also welcoming Northwestern Mutual's annual meeting," Kitzerow explains, underscoring the company's versatility and commitment to delivering exceptional culinary experiences.

A Bustling Summer for Saz's: Catering to the State's Biggest Events

Saz's has been at the forefront of Wisconsin's event scene this summer, catering to some of the state's most high-profile gatherings. From hosting the RNC at the Summerfest grounds to welcoming the annual meeting of Northwestern Mutual, the company has proven its ability to handle the demands of large-scale events with aplomb."This year has been especially busy for us," Kitzerow shares, highlighting the company's diverse portfolio of catering services. "We're ready for the best 11 days of summer at the Wisconsin State Fair." With their award-winning Sprokies and the return of the beloved Cotton Candy Lemonade, Saz's is poised to delight fairgoers with a culinary experience that is truly unparalleled.
